Marshall Office of the Lower Silesia Region is a regional public authority realizing regional policy to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the European Union by correcting imbalances between its regions. The strategic objective of the Lower Silesia region is to build regional innovation system based on local economy and research institutions. It is very important to strengthen cooperation between science and economy of the region.
The most important role of the Marshal’s Office is to manage the regional policy by creating conditions for economic growth, maintaining and extending social and technical infrastructure, gaining and joining public and private funds, supporting culture development, promoting regional assets and regional development etc. The Head of the Office, as well as the superior of all employees is the Marshal of Lower Silesia. The Regional self-government organs are: the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Assembly (legislative and control body) and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Board (executive body). The organs’ competences are regulated by the Act of 5th June 1998 on Regional self-government and the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Statute.
The Lower Silesia is a region of thousand-years history, meeting various traditions, cultures and customs. Due to favourable setting on crossing of important North-South, East – West communication routes and rich, multinational heritage it is not only the most dynamically developing region in Poland but also plays an important role as an industrial, administrative, educational and cultural link of this part of Europe. Important objective of the Lower Silesia's regional strategy is to increase economic activities on the basis of knowledge and innovation. It is also focused on increase of the competitiveness of the regional economy by taking advantage of achievements of R&D sector, development of knowledge-based society and applying modern information technologies. The implementation of these objectives is based on the region's strengths and opportunities regarding the development of enterprises, innovation and the information society.
